This might sound a little dull. But really, we think it's pretty fascinating.
When someone says Renaissance engravings or woodcuts, you think black and white, right? Baltimore Museum of Art has an online exhibition called Painted Prints: The Revelation of Color. And it feels like a genuine revelation. The site, based on an exhibit that closed in 2003, shows you how the works were created, letting you compare the color versions and the black and white one. It's a great use of the web to look at art. We spent a lot of time with Dürer's St. Jerome in his Study and it was fun hanging out there, poking around.
The themes aren't always so lofty: one image covers the battle of the sexes, and features a wife telling her husband: "keep still, you knavish scum."
