Many of the current crop of movies are based on novels. Here are four we think are worth picking up: The movie Perfume is an adaptation of the 1985 international bestseller of the same name by Patrick Süskind. Set in the 18th century, it's a black fairy tale of an orphan who has the gift (or a curse) of being able to detect and analyze smell far beyond the ability of the average human being...The movie Little Children, starring Kate Winslet, is the screen version of Tom Perrotta's novel about life in suburbia...Zoë Heller's book, What was She Thinking: Notes on a Scandal, tells two tales of obsession in a London school. The movie stars Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett. And Children of Men (with Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, and Michael Caine) uses P. D. James' sci-fi/mystery as a basis for the film, set in the year 2027, when humanity is no longer able to reproduce. Both the book and film are highly recommended.
