Spools of thread don't often promise much of a wow factor, at least not until artist Devorah Sperber works with them. When she assembles 5,024 of them -- as she does in "After Van Eyck" -- you get a beautiful but indeterminate mosaic. When viewed through the accompanying acrylic sphere, the image flips vertically and coalesces into Van Eyck's "Man in a Red Turban," after a fashion. Ms. Sperber has also accomplished similar feats with colored crystals and "The Last Supper" as well as the "Mona Lisa." There's an exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum in NYC from January 26-May 6, and much to see at the artist's website.
