The feud on the set of "Grey's Anatomy" over Isaiah Washington's use of an epithet is only the latest (if a particularly ugly example) in a long line of showbiz fights. On the opposite coast from the "Grey's" set has been the smackdown between Trump and Rosie that has threatened to flatten anyone who comes near it. Eminem thrives on feuding. When the TV show "Moonlighting" was in production (1985-1989), the same chemistry that Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd had on-camera made for legendary backstage fights. Dipping back even further, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford were the archest rivals over decades. A Davis biographer asked his subject if was true that she had said "There may be a heaven, but if Joan Crawford is there, I'm not going." Bette Davis replied in her best Bette Davis: "Would you?"
One of our all-time favorite feuds came to a head in 1973 when Sylvia Miles, who had been trashed by New York magazine critic John Simon, encountered her nemesis in a restaurant. In a class-action bit of revenge on behalf of all wounded actors, she took a plate of spaghetti and dumped it on Simon's head. Ah, the good old days.
