stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

The fine folks at Gelf Magazine are keeping an eye on all those blurbs, also known as pull-quotes, that help sell movies, books, cars, and many other products. Their weekly roundup of misleading blurbs nails the most egregious offenders. For example: the ads for The Cave of the Yellow Dog quote the Village Voice: "Stunning." Sounds promising, huh? But Gelf tells us the actual quote was: "The stunning, remote valleys where six-year-old Nansaa moves around with her sheep-herding, yurt-dwelling family are increasingly depopulated, as people abandon the nomadic way of life for jobs in the city."
