stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

The Light of Paris could be the quietest book ever about Paris, but that's intended as a compliment. Absolutely gorgeous black-and-white photos by Jean-Michel Berts of familiar City-of-Lights landmarks, and text by Pierre Assouline, are taken at dusk or later and are completely free of people. Mr. Berts' idiosyncratic style yields highly distinctive images -- timeless, richly atmospheric, melancholic, even, if you'll pardon the pun, rueful.
