On the title alone, Queen of the Oddballs: And Other True Stories from a Life Unaccording to Plan, has us in their corner. Hilary Carlip's memoir tells the true story of her life on the D-List. Who could resist anyone a resume that includes appearing on Art Linkletter when she was a kid, getting suspended from school, age 8, for trying to smoke like Holly Golightly, a juggling contestant on "The Gong Show," an extra in Xanadu, activist, out lesbian, and lead singer in a rock band. Maybe she's on the D-List of Hollywood, but she's A-List in our book.
