Apparently there's some show called "Top Chef" on television that's having it's finale tonight. (OK, getTRIO's parent is Bravo). The point of this item, though, is to help prevent you going into food-world withdrawal after that show is done for the season. First, we'd rent Eat This New York. It's an entertaining documentary about two guys trying to open a restaurant, with commentary from some of the people at the top of the food-world chain including Daniel Boulud, Sirio Maccioni, Danny Meyer, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and Ruth Reichl. Speaking of Ruth Reichl, the former Times restaurant critic and current editor-in-chief of Gourmet has several books out -- the one about her reviewing days, Garlic and Sapphires, is a terrific read. So is the memoir from longtime New York magazine food critic Gael Greene called Insatiable. And finally, foodies have something to look forward to when PBS launches their 26-part series this April called "Chef's Story." We've seen shows on Public Access that have higher production values than the hoary PBS style in evidence here. Even so, the lineup of chefs talking and cooking is amazing: David Bouley, Charlie Trotter, Jacques Torres, Anthony Bourdain, and some guy named Tom Colicchio.
