stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

You can think of what's inside Button O Matic vending machines as a hip accessory or tiny artwork from the world's smallest gallery. Either way, we love it.

At locations in seven states are vending machines, the kind that might have held gumballs or little toy prizes in a plastic sphere. Well, these actually do hold little prizes in a plastic sphere, just a bit more grownup. For 50¢ a pop, you get a button specially-designed for Button O Matic by an artist or illustrator.

There's a new twist coming in the next couple of weeks: anyone will be allowed to submit designs; readers get to vote on their favorites and the top 20 will be made and sold in the machines.

As one of the contest winners - I'd have to say I'm really excited about seeing my button design on sale and watching someone be excited when it comes out of the machine...
