Oh, New Jersey! You might not have had us at hello, but you definitely had us by Exit 14.
Some serious Jersey love today for being the third state in the nation to allow same-sex civil unions, following Connecticut and Vermont (Massachusetts, at least for now, allows marriage).
In its honor, here are 10 (more) things to love about the Garden State:
1) Asbury Park. Its revitalization is due, in part, to its burgeoning gay and lesbian community.
2) Cape May. A perennial NJ fave for Victoriana and beachfront.
3) WFMU. One of the best radio stations anywhere calls Jersey City home. Don't miss the station's fantastic blog.
4) Thomas Edison. The Edison National Historic Site makes the case that modern life began here.
5) El Toro. This roller coaster has the steepest vertical drop of any (wooden) coaster in the world.
6) Springsteen. Self-explanatory.
7) Red's Lobster Pot. Head down the shore to the shack at Point Pleasant Beach.
8) Weird NJ. We love a state that has enough weirdness to be chronicled, as it is here.
9) Borgata. The shiny new casino complex in Atlantic City also has top-chef eateries and books top-tier acts.
10) Meryl Streep. For this Jersey native alone, the nation owes NJ a debt of gratitude.
