One of Japan's young superstar photographers is Rinko Kawauchi, and if you don't know her work, you're in for a treat.
Nature is her stomping ground, though she inevitably manages to see something in the plants, animals, landscapes (as well as people) through her lens that you may have seen -- but didn't notice. There's always some expectation in her work. As she says, "I want imagination in the photographs I take. It's like a prologue. You wonder, 'What's going on?' You feel something is going to happen."
While Ms. Kawauchi doesn't have her own website, you can see examples of the work in her current exhibition at the Hasselblad Center in Sweden, and more at New York's Cohan and Leslie Gallery website. In addition, she has two photo diary books available for purchase.
