Chris Bohjalian (author of Midwives and Before You Know Kindness) has a new book out next week called The Double Bind and it's a riveting read.
It's the story, in part, of a photographer whose life devolves from celebrity photographer to spending his last days at a Vermont homeless shelter. (Bohjalian uses the similar real-life saga of Bob "Soupy" Campbell as a jumping-off point for his tale.) A box of photographs the character leaves behind prompts an 'investigation' by an unlikely sleuth, a shelter volunteer with a past she is struggling to overcome.
And to find out how The Great Gatsby, of all things, fits into this, you'll have to read the book. Time well spent.
