Indie rock fans know that Canada's superb Broken Social Scene band has been a generous mothership. Members test their wings in various solo and group acts but they're always part of the family.
One of the best offshoots is Apostle of Hustle, helmed by BSS's lead guitarist Andrew Whiteman. Their second album, called "National Anthem of Nowhere," is out March 6 (though available now at iTunes).
It would take a forensic musicologist to track down all the musical styles and influences that Whiteman incorporates. And because it's such a rangy brew, it may take a couple of listens to fully hook into it. But by the third spin, you may conclude as we did that "National Anthem of Nowhere" is a great album.
Starting in the middle of the month, Apostle of Hustle will be touring the U.S. You can find the dates in the gigs section of their site.
