stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

Fabprefab can preempt your preconceptions about prefab pads.

There's been a lot of interest in the past few years about prefab housing, and designers are now delivering a range of affordable and environmentally-responsible modernist options.

Fabprefab is the place to start if you're even mildly curious. That's because they're not selling or marketing homes on the site. Instead, you'll find a collection of resources that will show you what's available, what projects are in development, and answers to the most frequently asked questions. The message boards are also very helpful.

At the West Coast independent design show called CA Boom 4 that takes place in Santa Monica at the end of the month, you can meet with a number of prefab manufacturers including Alchemy architects, LivingHomes, and kitHAUS.

To learn more, the book Prefab Prototypes: Site-Specific Design for Offsite Construction by Mark Anderson, is invaluable.
