San Franciscans know Michael Schwab, even if they don't know his name.
He's the designer of the memorable Golden Gate National Park signs, the ones that say things like Muir Woods and Point Bonita in timelessly clean lines and gorgeous colors, including much use of black. They're just one part of his extensive portfolio which runs from Amtrak to NPR to Lärabars.
You can own a signed silk-screen or giclee print by Mr. Schwab -- about five dozen are available from the store on his website. You'll find the Golden Gate signs, a transportation series, and a black and white image called "Storytime" of a bear spinning a good yarn to a half-dozen animals who have gathered, sitting in rapt attention.
