How many designers and architects can you fit into one hotel? If you're Madrid's Hotel Puerta América, the answer is 19.
The Hoteles Silken property opened in 2005 at a cost of over $90 million (that's nuts, but apparently true) -- much of which was spent rounding up the biggest design names in the world, and then letting them have their way with each of this hotel's floors (plus public spaces). Even the parking lot gets the full conceptual treatment.
Design mavens on a summer whirl through Europe should definitely check in. Which floor you want to be on depends entirely on your aesthetic. Plasma Studio? Fourth floor. Jean Nouvel? Twelve. Zaha Hadid? First floor. You get the idea.
Standard rooms start at 150 euros.
