Few things are as widely loved and as little understood as sleep.
Any time science develops a deeper understanding of the subject, we're curious to hear more. Many of the advances in the field are covered in a new book out today called Sleep: The Mysteries, The Problems, and the Solutions, by Carlos H. Schenck.
Dr. Schenck is a prominent sleep expert and researcher. The book addresses common problems such as insomnia and restless legs syndrome -- and how to treat them -- but also more extreme disorders that science has only recently been able to explain. They're called parasomnias -- things such as sleep terrors, sleep violence, sleep paralysis, and sexsomnia.
We think it makes fascinating reading. But then we're always happy to wake up and smell the coffee.
