stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

Anjelica Huston, John Cusack, and Annette Bening play a trio of con artists in The Grifters, a movie from 1990, who are experts at gaining people's trust, then lying, cheating, and stealing. Ah, good times.

Appreciation of the grift makes us an easy mark for a new television series called "The Riches," especially since it's starring that coolest of cats -- cross-dressing, stand-up-comedian-turned actor Eddie Izzard -- along with Minnie Driver, who plays Izzard's wife. The show premieres March 12 on FX.

In the opening, Izzard, Driver, and their three kids are on the lam when they run into a bit of good luck: a couple has conveniently died in remote car accident. A little identity theft, the discovery of an awaiting new house in the suburbs, and the series is off and running.

The Grifters has a comedic tone, but you can't really say that about "The Riches." While there's humor in it, it's a darker palette.

Either way, we're in.

Good to see Eddie Izzard staring in a new series, as I didn't get to see all of Kitchen. I will be tuning into FX and see how exactly the show kicks off. All sounds good.

I caught Eddie Izzard one nite on HBO it took me a few moments to get it.....But Now I am a Huge fan. I have seen him several times at City Center. I hope the show is a great success. I don't want to loose the ability to see him do standup in the future.
