Having written the operas "Nixon in China" and "The Death of Klinghoffer" would be enough to assure any composer a permanent place in opera history.

But John Adams is clearly not interested in resting on his laurels. Last year saw the debut of "A Flowering Tree" in Vienna (short sound clip), which premieres at the Barbican in the U.K. in August. There are performances all over the world of his works and the composer also spends much of his time conducting his own and others' works.

Fans will be particularly glad to learn that Adams has written his memoirs, which will be published later this year by Farrar, Straus.
