Some of the most extraordinary jewelry in the world is being made by Lorenz Bäumer.
The Paris-based designer with a salon on Place Vendôme creates collections, limited editions, and custom pieces, quietly and steadily building a devoted coterie of clients.
He uses plenty of diamonds and sapphires, but he is just as likely to use less conventional materials. And while some of the forms are familiar enough, many are organic, whimsical, or otherwise full of surprise. It wouldn't occur to most jewelers to design a Vegetable Bracelet or Bioryhthym Earrings or a Lemon Brooch.
Opening tomorrow at the Forbes Galleries in New York City is "Lorenz Bäumer: The Creative Process of a Jeweler" through June 16.
