One of the more joyous documentaries in the past few years, Mad Hot Ballroom tells the story of NYC school kids as they learn to ballroom dance and prepare for a citywide competition. It's out on DVD now.
Amy Sewell, the movie's producer, has written a book called The Mad Hot Adventures Of An Unlikely Documentary Filmmaker about getting the movie made. She was a stay-at-home mother with no film experience, but she became determined to tell the story of these kids.
The book is about how she did it, offering practical advice for anyone who might want to take the plunge. Armchair travelers will enjoy the journey, too.
