stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

You'd think we were making this up: Elvis Presley writes a letter on American Airlines stationery to Richard Nixon saying he'd like to meet, that he has a present for him, that he'd like to become a Federal agent at large. Sounds more than half-way to cookie town, no?

Even more unlikely, Nixon agrees. The correspondence, transcripts, and photos of the meeting are beautifully exhibited online by the National Archives.

In our YouTube era, politics and popular culture intersect so frequently (just ask the Dixie Chicks) that it can be difficult to know where one stops and the other starts. Even so, When Nixon Met Elvis retains its high weirdness factor all these years later.
