Michael Chabon fans, and that includes us, are counting the days for his long-awaited new novel
The Yiddish Policemen's Union.

The author of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and The Mysteries of Pittsburgh sets this one in Alaska, site of a temporary Jewish homeland -- which FDR actually proposed at one point. Only Chabon would combine that historical footnote with a hard-boiled murder mystery and Borscht Belt comedy, once again creating a fully-realized world that seems only a few historical turns away from our own.

May 1st is the publication date.
