stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

If you're heading out of the city for a summer weekend to visit friends in quieter, leafier towns, you could do worse than to bring a few board games as house gifts. Our picks:

Balderdash, a bluffing game, Wise and Otherwise, similar to Balderdash, but uses little known sayings from countries around the world. Taboo -- you try to name common words without using certain descriptors. And Scattergories, in which you try to list as many items within a specific category in the time allowed.

Rainy days at the beach don't seem so bad with a good group of friends and a bunch of board games. We have sat around and read trivia pursuit questions out loud to one another without using the actual board. Sometimes you don't need to keep score.

If you're looking for new games to play, head over to BoardGameGeek.com, which lists nearly 30,000 different games from around the world. The possibilities for gaming are immense, something I rediscover every day in my role as editor of BoardgameNews.com.

I highly reccommend not only BGG, http://www.boardgamegeek.com, but also http://www.boardgamenews.com. I stumbled upon BGG 3 years ago. Unbelievable how many different games are out there. Be careful, though, it can become addicting :-)
