When the nights are balmy, we like to crank up the A.C. and let some Bollywood wash over us.
There's something about those Indian films -- the spectacle, the sentimentality, the occasional cheesiness, and above all the production numbers, that seem to us like the summertime equivalent of a cup of warm tea in winter.
Our favorite among many is Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (3KG as it's referred to by fans). It's the story of what happens to a family when one of the sons marries a woman against his parents' wishes.
Whether or not the heightened style of acting and the melodramatic aspects of the story appeal to you, you'll most likely find the musical numbers irresistible. They're huge, over-the-top affairs that go on far longer than any American movie would. Our favorite here is "Seth Sada Sada," available from iTunes.
