Someday, you could be driving the bottle of Diet Coke you've got in the fridge.
Hyundai's concept car, the QarmaQ, was unveiled recently and it's not only fierce looking, but it's eco-friendly from the ground up. Hyundai teamed up with GE Plastic (GE is a parent -- great-grandparent might be more accurate -- of getTRIO), that has some body panels made from 900 recycled plastic bottles, others made from a lightweight composite. All of that weight loss helps save gas, too.
Since the car maker proposes replacing many components with molded resins, it would reduce the amount of paint inside and out. That in turn reduces the amount of eco-damaging volatile compounds the car would release.
Even if the QarmaQ never moves beyond the prototype stage, Hyundai has said that it could incorporate some of these innovations in other models as early as 2008. Have a look at the prototype here.
