The Visual Effects Society just released their list [PDF] of the 50 movies that were milestones in the world of cinematic visual effects world.
There are some gimmes (The Matrix, the Lord of the Rings trilogy) and some surprises (Mary Poppins? Well, she does fly with an umbrella), but mostly the list makes us excited to rediscover the movies that we saw as little (or not-so-little) kids and that made us wonder, "How did they do that?"
