The World Monuments Funds has just announced its 2008 list of the 100 Most Endangered Sites -- architectural and cultural sites around the world that are threatened by conflict, development, or climate change. Think of it as global warning.
It's a sobering watch list, running the gamut from Leh Old Town in India -- one of the Himalaya's rare intact medieval cities -- to the Salk Institute in California.
World Monuments Fund President Bonnie Burnham says, "On this list, man is indeed the real enemy. But, just as we caused the damage in the first place, we have the power to repair it, by taking our responsibility as caretakers of the world’s cultural heritage seriously."
