stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

"Don't think, just shoot" is the mantra of the Lomographic Society International, a free-spirited, loose-association of photographers who use the iconic Russian LOMO camera.

There's an interesting story of how it came to be, having to do with Communism, cameras for the people, the classic LOMO (think of it as the photographic version of the Trabant), and how some Prague students thought the cameras should be rescued from the dustbin of history. (The full account here.)

Lomographers follow 10 golden rules, including 'take your camera everywhere you go,' 'be fast,' 'you don't have to know beforehand what you captured on film,' and, rule number 10, 'don't worry about any rules.'

I really enjoyed this article. I have recently completed an "unseen america" photography class and this information confirmed much of what I have learned.
