"Leonardo was inspired by the ceiling in the great chapel. Michelangelo found his art in the Italian marble. Who am I to stand in the way of all these fine artists and artisans who want to use my lumpy, aging face for inspiration?" -- William Shatner
Shatner makes a good point. If artists throughout history were moved to creation by their everyday environment, who's to say today's creators can't find a muse in the man behind Captain Kirk, TJ Hooker, and those Priceline commercials?
For "The Shatner Show," more than 70 artists from across the U.S. and Canada rendered the actor in a multitude of media, and the results -- on display at Calgary’s Uppercase Gallery through August 31 and viewable online -- are almost always more interesting, more thought-provoking, and less ironic than you might think.
