We're suckers for anything that sounds like it could be the theme to a 007 movie from the future: Give us moody, retro-styled strings and horns, throw in some trip-hoppy bleeps and bloops, and we're shaken and stirred all over the place.
"The Mating Game," from electronica duo Bitter:Sweet, is just that, plus a few more things. The disc was a cult favorite in '06 (read: never quite splashed out), and the band showed up on a couple of soundtracks (The Devil Wears Prada, for one). The Angelenos (one of whom was spawned by Supreme Beings of Leisure) have two noteworthy projects on deck right now: A tour, taking them all over the country this month, and a just-released CD.
"The Remix Game" is what happens when you take lush, third-drink tracks like "Dirty Laundry" and "Don't Forget to Breathe," and stick them in a room with mixmavens like Thievery Corporation, Nicola Conte and Fort Knox Five.
For the record, we're still not tired of the originals.
