According to Wikipedia, Lanternfishes (or myctophids, from the Greek mykter, "nose" and ophis, "serpent") are small, deep sea fish of the large family myctophidae.
Luckily, you don't need to know any of this to be completely mesmerized by Lantern Fishes, Adam Gault's gorgeous, otherwordly animated short. If Tim Burton were locked in the Museum of Natural History's basement for a week, we're thinking the result might look a little something like this.
Plus: Motionographer.com interviews graphic artist Gault about the project.
