stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

Queen Latifah is everywhere just now, and that's fine by us.

You can see her as Motormouth Maybelle in the movie musical Hairspray. She just earned an Emmy nomination her portrayal of an AIDS activist in the HBO movie Life Support. She's the narrator of the movie Arctic Tale. She wrote a children's book last year called Queen of the Scene. You can watch her on DVD in Chicago. She released an album a few years ago, The Dana Owens Album (Dana Owens is her given name), that covered everyone from Billy Strayhorn to Dr. Buzzard. And she sang "As Time Goes By" with Rod Stewart on his second American Songbook album. Not enough yet?

The best news, as far as we're concerned, comes in late September, when QL will release Trav'lin' Light. On it, she sings songs made famous by female vocalists who inspired her, including Roberta Flack, Peggy Lee, Shirley Horn, and Nina Simone. Jill Scott and Erykah Badu lend vocal support, and Stevie Wonder plays harmonica on one of the tracks. We can't wait!

I am a big admirer of Queen Latifa. She does not only women as a whole proud, but particularly black women. She IS a class act. What's ironic is I began my interest and admiration for her acting ability when watching "Set it off." Cleo not so classy :)
