stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

October is traditionally scary-movie month, and 28 Weeks Later, out today on DVD, is about as scary as they come -- but not in the 'will the partying cheerleader be next?' way.

Instead, the heart-thumping sequel to 28 Days Later is about the rebuilding of Great Britain after a virus has wiped out much of the population. As those who fled begin to return, all is not, you understand, well.

28 Weeks Later isn't standard slasher fare, but we think it's one dark, smart, terrifying movie.

Feh. "28 Weeks Later" was a completely inferior sequel in just about every way. Everything that made the original great--claustrophobia, sense of mounting dread, slow descent into madness--was missing in "Weeks," as were Danny Boyle and Alex Garland.
