stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

After a new Top Chef gets crowned tonight, we'll be missing our weekly dose of culinary shop talk.

Of course there are plenty of sources out there for food info, gossip, and recipes. There aren't however, many along the lines of Gastronomica. It's a nicely-produced quarterly without a lot of bells and whistles. Instead, thoughtful articles about food and culture, as well as humor, fiction, poetry, all food-related.

You can read about both foie gras and cabbage in the same issue, sake, maple syrup -- you get the idea. There is a chef's page, book reviews, articles about wine, and enough surprises to keep it interesting. Gastronomica is no amuse gueule -- it's a satisfying tasting menu.
