It's only available so far in about 20 cities, but we applaud one of the latest projects, in beta testing, from the Google Labs.
Plug in your start and end address for a trip and Google Transit will give you a lot of great info on how to make the trip without using a car. It shows you the route on one of their superb maps, tells you specifically what public transit to use (down to the bus route number), cost of the trip, estimated travel time, and a link to the transit agency for last-minute service changes and other news.
