If you're still thinking England/food/funny -- you're a decade or two behind the times.
Sure, with a little work you can get a dish of canned peas boiled beyond recognition. But now you can go to London and eat as well as in any world-class city. (Paying for it is, of course a different matter, given the state of the dollar.)
To get a sense of what's worth it and what's not, we like the unglitzy but well-written blog Food and Drink in London. We enjoy the sense of armchair/tabletop travel, reading about restaurants we're not likely to get to soon, if ever. But if we're near Borough Market, we'll know to have lunch at Magdalen, to pass on the Hoxton Grille, and not to miss the Anchor and Hope.
The two gents who write this blog say this about a Thai restaurant they review, "No unnecessary fripperies. No pretensions to grandeur. No nonsense." The same could be said for this site.
