The race was on, in 1929, to invent television and claim the patent. In one corner, David Sarnoff, head of RCA. In the other, high school student Philo T. Farnsworth. You couldn't fabricate a better David and Goliath variation. And you couldn't come up with a better team to bring this story back to life.
Aaron Sorkin, best known as the creator of "The West Wing," returns to Broadway with The Farnsworth Invention, in previews now for a November opening. Top Broadway director Des McAnuff is at the helm and he's got some great talent to work with among the large cast. Chief among those are Hank Azaria as Sarnoff and newcomer Jimmi Simpson playing Farnsworth.
It's notoriously difficult to handicap Broadway prospects, but if we were forced to do so, in this case we'd say hit.
