For anyone lucky enough to see Victoria Clark's Tony-winning performance in the Broadway musical The Light in the Piazza, we bet those beautiful songs, exquisitely sung, have lodged snugly in your memory.
Worthy Broadway musicals being in short supply, we haven't seen Ms. Clark in a follow-up musical role since. But she's just released a solo album called "Fifteen Seconds of Grace," which we recommend highly.
Her thrilling voice is put to good use on songs ranging from standards such as "I Got Lost in His Arms" and "Before the Parade Passes By" and a never-before-recorded song by Adam Guettel, composer of Piazza, called "Life is But a Dream." Highlights also include "Departure," Jeff Blumenkrantz's musical version of the heartrending Edna St. Vincent Millay poem, and a lovely Ricky Ian Gordon song called "The Red Dress."
Listening to Ms. Clark is the warmest of warm baths.
