stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

Hans Soderquist likes old photographs. A lot. And even though many images are being preserved as important artifacts by government-run and private agencies (from museum trusts to the Library of Congress digital archives), he despairs that they're not being displayed and enjoyed as thy deserve to be.

So he founded Argent Editions, a small Manhattan-based outfit dedicated to creating modern prints of historic, little-seen photographs (most of them black and white) from the likes of Lewis Hine, Gordon Parks and Walker Evans. A photographer himself, Soderquist knows his stuff and prints the arresting images (organized by theme, such as the Depression, Black History and Life in New York) to last, using archival pigment-based inks on satin-finish, acid-free paper. Prices start at about $65.
