stuff to buy stuff to do stuff to see

When it comes to makeup and skin care articles, you'll usually find a lot of more puffery than information.

That's why we like Paul Begoun's site Paula's Choice. As the 'Cosmetics Cop,' she gives you a surprisingly forthright take on the latest and supposedly greatest. We especially like the section called This Month's Best and Worst Products -- there's no beating around the bush. For November, she calls La Mer's Radiant Infusion 'The Radiant Rip-Off.' "Quite honestly," she writes, "you'd get more radiance from a brisk jog around the block than from applying this toner-like product."

In addition to her reviews, she has her own line of makeup and skin care products. And the 7th edition of her book Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me will be out in January.

It seems odd that nobody picked up on a conflict of interest between Paula Begoun critiquing other cosmetics and skin care lines when she offers her own for sale.
