You might wonder where Imani Coppola's been since 1997. "Chupacabra," the debut from the feisty hip-hop singer (no relation to Francis Ford or Sofia) barely left our CD players (remember those?), but after the hit "Legend of a Cowgirl" and a few dribs and drabs on soundtracks in the late '90s, Coppola seemed to disappear from the scene.

She's been a busy girl -- 2004 saw the release of "Afrodite," she toured with Peeping Tom, the musical collective founded by Mike Patton (Faith No More, Fantomas) and she's released a handful of albums independently through her website but the just-released "Black & White Album" may put her back in the public eye, with its raw funk basslines and punk tinges framing her raspy vocals. Listen to the single "Raindrops from the Sun" here.
