Whatever else you say about Rufus Wainwright, you have to admire his fearlessness.
Judy Garland's 1961 Carnegie Hall concert has often been called the greatest show of all time, so who in their right mind would try to recreate it? Surely that would be a train wreck from the first "clang, clang, clang," to the last "heigh-ho."
And yet Wainwright, backed by a 36-piece orchestra, pulled it off during the June, 2006 event. It should not have worked but it does, as you'll be able to hear for yourself on December 4 when the two-disc "Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall" CD is released.
