It was the 2005 riots in Paris that motivated French photographer Denis Darzacq to create his series called "La Chute" (The Fall) -- and the realization that these 20-somethings may be sailing into adulthood with no safety net.

Even if that sounds ominous, the series is still incredibly cool. Darzacq manages to capture people in mid-flight: they seem to be levitating up, flying down, defying gravity. We look at these photos and see a kind of joyous release, though you may see peril (or even traumatic events of recent years). How to interpret these startling photos is finally in the eye of the beholder, which may be the key to their success.
