All his life, Ben Franklin's business card modestly maintained he was a printer. What, we wonder, is on Jorge Pardo's card?
You might wonder the same thing if you can catch the major mid-career retrospective at North Miami's MOCA, on now through March 2nd. That's because the Havana-born artist/designer/sculptor/painter/architect -- well, you see the issue. But Mr. Pardo thrives, perhaps, precisely because he bursts through traditional pigeonholes.
The show in Miami is organized, as its title "House" suggests, by various room contexts: kitchen, dining room, bedroom, etc. It's a perfect chance to see what the prodigiously talented Mr. Pardo has been up to, and where design may be heading in the next decade.
