Stephin Merritt is one of the most talented and original musicians out there today, working with his loosely-knit band Magnetic Fields. It's Merritt's vision from start to finish: he writes, sings, and produces most of the tracks, and plays many of the instruments. The music is a mix of contemporary pop, rock, and electronica with flashes of stuff from the '60s.
It's always an event when Magnetic Fields drops a new album, which they do next week, called "Distortion." And the icing is that they're playing dates in February and March in major cities.
