"This Sporting Life," the classic 1963 British film from director Lindsay Anderson, gets a spiffy reissue on DVD from the Criterion Collection.
Kitchen-sink realism has developed something of a quaint reputation but at the time it was a breakthrough style in movies and theater. "This Sporting Life" tells the story of a miner-turned-rugby-player played by Richard Harris. Rachel Roberts is his superb co-star and the two won Oscar nominations for their performances.
The DVD contains lots of goodies, including interviews about Anderson and several of his documentaries.
